Spirit Dancers
After several years of making photos for the Pomo dancers and their families, I wanted to visually express something deeper about the meaning and experience of the sacred Pomo dances.
The images of the Spirit Dancers are not intended to represent any specific dancer, but to honor generations of Pomo Dancers who continue to keep this cultural tradition alive and relevant. Dancing honors the living and those who have passed on to the Spirit World. As one elder said, "Nature is my church, dancing is how I pray."
